Commute
by Ted L Glines

Ain't nothin better than a peyote sandwich
in the mornin,
chew it up masticate til the visions hit you
without warnin,
lookin out the windshield see the colors swirlin
oh so pretty,
don't you worry bout the traffic all the trucks and the buses
look like birdies,
look at all the people they're just dancin and a'jumpin
they're so funny,
listen to the screamin makes you happy you are dreamin
easter bunny,
gimme more peyote gotta have some more peyote
gettin higher,
an the world is rockin rollin like a lava lamp a'burnin
in the fire,
if you wanna better day you gotta learn a better way
in the dawnin,
cause there ain't nothin better than a peyote sandwich
in the mornin.

Author's Notes: You ever get tired  of that long  boring commute to work every day? Heh heh, forget  I said that. The tune to  "Carolina Morning" kept playing in my  head all night long at work. Words were  nice and good and wonderful  -- and dead boring, so some new (not necessarily  better) words  leaped in to liven up the tune. Peyote? Hmmm, must be those two  drops of Yaqui Indian blood in me. Sounds like an "uprising" kemo  sabe!

Cop's Song
by Ted L Glines

What I am, what I was, what I will be,
what will the next bloody thrill be?
A robber, a cop, a saint, or a whore,
what will I find when I open your door?
Where is the love that's never been,
the emptiness haunts me again and again.
Where is the line between right and wrong,
where is the end of the endless song?

Song?

Who will I meet who will sing me a song,
just a whispering song where I belong,
like a lullaby to sing me to rest,
where I can feel good in a warm little nest.
Here comes the call, they're calling my name,
another chance for death or fame,
so loosen the gun and forget about fright
and the siren will sing my song tonight.

Author's Notes: To "Serve and Protect"  - such a  simple slogan - like the simple badge which shields the  frightened lonely soul  who wears the blue. There is not money  enough or benefits enough to repay them  for the risks they take  for me and you. Salute!

Coming Back
by Ted L Glines

After a long time resting
between lives - dead
angels told me to return
and this is what they said:
One more time, just one more
to fully perfect your goal
but this time you may pick
your chosen living role.
Would you like to be
a king with endless gold
to wield such awesome power
in stories often told;
Or mayhap a famous actor
whose lines upon the stage
bring heartfelt tears and cheers
from folks of every age;
Perhaps you'd care to be
homeless on the street
learning to survive quite well
with not a lot to eat;
Oh no, said I
I'd not choose any of these
for they are cartoon people
using life with cliche ease;
I want to drink this final life
to feel it write it know it
and express my endings nicely
in the way of a poet.
